Patient's question:
Did the daughter have a problem with the size of the fontanelle like a peanut 4 and a half months ago? The child has had this condition for a while and is afraid to take medicine. Please give the doctor some advice.Doctor's answer:
Hello, according to the child's condition, the child is quite normal. It is recommended that you start adding complementary foods to the child. There is a diamond-shaped gap at the top of the baby's head, called the anterior fontanelle, measuring 2.5 cm x 2.5 cm (the line connecting the midpoints of the two opposite sides). It can be felt as having a pulsating sensation.
The anterior fontanelle typically closes between 12 to 18 months of age. Delayed closure of the anterior fontanelle can be seen in children with conditions such as rickets, cretinism, and hydrocephalus. Premature closure of the anterior fontanelle is observed in children with microcephaly.
A bulging and raised anterior fontanelle indicates increased intracranial pressure and is commonly seen in children with meningitis and hydrocephalus. Aned anterior fontanelle is seen in children with dehydration, malnutrition, and severe emaciation.
