Features: The China Interior Design Competition, organized by the Interior Design Branch of the China Institute of Architecture, began in 1998 and has a history of nine years. The number of entries and winning works from across the country has been increasing year by year, with 1,328 projects participating in 2006. The competition enables designers to communicate their design concepts and methods, learn from each other, which promotes the continuous improvement of China's interior design standards and the rapid growth of the designer community. Looking back at the winning works over the past ten years, it can be seen that the development trajectory and forward strides of China's interior design industry. The winning works of 2006 basically reflect the level of contemporary Chinese interior design, showing the efforts designers have made to address major challenges they face. For example, some designers have come to understand the broad scope of the interior design profession. They focus on integrating and transcending differences, striving to grasp the overall relationship of the spatial environment and create comprehensive high-quality spaces. Amid the impact of globalization, they have made unremitting efforts to study and develop their own regional culture, gradually forming their own distinctive styles. In terms of environmental friendliness, energy efficiency, and exploring multi-layered green design, they have achieved encouraging results. Some foreign judges also that some winning works are close to or have reached world-class standards.
