Features: This book is a study on the development of English sentence patterns among Chinese students. The features of lexical categories are essential components of language acquisition; the characteristics of functional categories contain the regularities of universal grammar and parametric values (Radford, 2000: F15). Functional categories can manifest in explicit forms or implicit forms. They can encompass both morphologically rich and morphologically poor languages, and also provide a new research perspective and parameters for second language acquisition research. English is morphologically rich, while Chinese is morphologically poor. When Chinese students learn English, Chinese transfer and the degree to which students acquire English syntax are the two major factors influencing their choices of linguistic structures.
