Features: The Contemporary Chinese Biographies series is a grand project that reflects the glorious achievements of historical figures who made outstanding contributions to the establishment, consolidation, development, and prosperity of the People's Republic of China. Its main subjects include: the key leaders of the Party and the State (including the biographies of the elderly revolutionaries Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi, Zhu De, Deng Xiaoping, and Chen Yun, written and published by the Central Documentation and Research Office of the CPC), the meritorious marshals and generals of the People's Liberation Army, the leaders of various democratic parties who participated in the founding of the new China and renowned patriotic figures from all walks of life, prominent scientists, writers, artists, labor model workers, as well as internationalist fighters who made significant contributions to the democratic revolution and socialist cause of China. The significance of these biographies far exceeds the scope of recording individual lives; they are condensed versions of the history of the founding and construction of the new China, the establishment and pioneering of the socialism with Chinese characteristics, and a precious spiritual heritage of the Chinese nation that is always worth cherishing. This book extensively visited the places where General Peng lived and fought during his lifetime and consulted those who knew him well, gathering vast amounts of documents, archives, memoirs, and interview records. Adhering to the spirit of "seeking truth from facts and writing with sincerity," it portrays General Peng's thunderous might on the battlefield, his unwavering loyalty to the Party and the people, his steadfast political integrity like that of cypress trees, his frugal lifestyle like ice and snow, and his simple and unadorned demeanor.
