Features: At the beginning of the 1930s, a famous university president said in his inaugural speech, "Mencius said, 'What is meant by a homeland is not that it has tall trees, but that it has hereditary officials.' I can imitate this and say, 'What is meant by a university is not that it has large buildings, but that it has great masters.'" The faculty and alumni lists of Central China Normal University and its predecessor institutions include many masters who enjoy high prestige both at home and abroad. They are the Five Great Mountains among the peaks and the North Star among the stars. For example, there are Mr. Gui Zhiteng and Mr. Bian Peng, who served as deans of the School of Science at Central China University; Mr. Wei Zhuomin, who first served as the dean of the School of Arts and later as the president of the university; Mr. Bao Lubein, Mr. Fu Maozhi, and Mr. You Guoen, professors of the Chinese Department; Mr. Xu Nianguang, a professor of the Department of History and Social Sciences; Mr. Pan Ziniannian, the first director of the Central China Normal School; and Mr. Yang Dongchen, the president of Central China Normal College. Others include Mr. Wang Yanan and Mr. Feng Youlan, alumni of Central China University. We have always been proud of these masters' names, and we are even more willing to take their spirit and achievements as models and treasures to fundamentally strengthen the construction of the university, ensuring that higher education stands firmly at the pinnacle of culture and truly becomes a garden that nurtures and sends out great masters. The "Gui Yue Book Series" was compiled and published with this purpose in mind. The first volume introduces the works of several masters who once taught at Central China Normal College, including the academic selected works of Yang Dongchen, Wei Zhuomin, Qian Jibo, Zhang Shunhui, and Zhan Jianfeng. The second volume aims to expand the scope and include the works of outstanding scholars who have worked at Central China University, Central China University, and Central China Normal University. The achievements of the predecessors are the high mountains we look up to, but they are by no means a limit. Giants are always willing to use their shoulders to support the next generation and create a more brilliant and splendid tomorrow. We hope that the great works of the older generation will continue to find new admirers, and that new scholars will join the ranks of the authors of the "Gui Yue Book Series" from generation to generation.
