Features: This book is compiled based on the "Reference Vocabulary List" attached to the "Teaching Requirements for College English Courses" issued by the Ministry of Education in 2004, covering all vocabulary for the new syllabus's CET-4 level. The book does not simply arrange and explain the syllabus vocabulary in alphabetical order, nor does it rely solely on traditional root and affix analysis as the only memorization method. Instead, it follows the principle that English word memorization is multi-faceted and multi-angle, categorizing words into different groups based on their characteristics and placing them in distinct memorization blocks for comprehensive learning. This approach not only avoids the monotony of memorizing A today, B tomorrow, and C the day after, making word memorization both engaging and challenging, but also allows students to effortlessly grasp the structure, difficulties, and key points of many words while learning their pronunciation, form, and meaning. It helps students understand the connections between words, solve tricky questions, and efficiently expand their vocabulary.
The book is divided into eight parts, with the first seven introducing different memorization methods. Part 1 is the Root and Affix Method. Parts 2 and 3 are the Semantic Distinction Method. Part 4 is the Comparative Memorization Method. Part 5 is the Conversion Method. Part 6 is the Segmentation Memorization Method. Part 7 is the Classification Memorization Method. Part 8 combines previously learned words using a (chain) method, with a core word as the backbone, linking words together to form a "long vine." This creates a memory line in the learner's mind, allowing them to follow the vine to trace back and forth, and serves as the final comprehensive review and memorization.
