The Syllabus for English Teaching in Higher Education Institutions (Revised Edition, 2000) (hereinafter referred to as The Syllabus) has proposed new requirements and standards for the cultivation of English majors, curriculum design, teaching demands, and teaching principles in China. The English Group of the Advisory Committee on Foreign Language Teaching in Higher Education Institutions revised the Syllabus for the College English Test Band 4 (Revised Edition) published in 1997 accordingly. The revised Syllabus for the College English Test Band 4 (hereinafter referred to as "The Exam Syllabus") was officially published in March 2004. This book was written based on the new syllabus. It remains a "full-authentic test." How difficult is the TEM-4 exam? What are the reliability and validity of its test papers? The editors' understanding of this, no matter how accurate, would likely still fall short of the actual exam papers! Therefore, we decided to use past exam papers as the standard for self-assessment and learning for our readers! It is evident that our "full-authentic test" has been rewritten. We have completely rewritten the past TEM-4 exam papers according to the requirements of the new exam syllabus. This approach serves two purposes: first, it allows readers to experience the real exam atmosphere, fully adapting them to the new TEM-4 question types and exam requirements; second, by practicing past full-authentic tests, readers can familiarize themselves with the TEM-4 exam setting, including understanding the actual difficulty of the TEM-4 questions, enabling them to approach the exam with confidence and handle it calmly.
