Features: Although this book focuses on the identification of pathogenic organisms, it also includes work conducted using modern technology on their disease biology, methodology, literature retrieval, distribution, and ecological geography. It is the most comprehensive monograph to date in China that addresses the research on harmful protozoa in marine aquaculture from both professional and academic perspectives. As a work that emphasizes both application and theoretical foundations, the author has ensured that the content is both academically rigorous and practical, striving for clarity and simplicity. In addition to serving as supplementary teaching material for disease biology courses in higher education institutions, this book can also be used as a reference for professionals engaged in marine aquaculture and aquatic disease prevention, researchers in related disciplines, or graduate students. Based on first-hand data, the book systematically summarizes the author's recent research findings in the field of marine aquaculture diseases and harmful protozoa. It discusses the etiology, host distribution, and harmfulness of various parasitic and other harmful protozoa commonly found in economically important fish, bivalves, and shrimp in northern China's marine aquaculture, as well as the basic methodologies for conducting related research. Given that many marine parasitic protozoa are globally distributed, and that more pathogenic species may yet to be discovered, the final chapter of this book also introduces the distribution and host information of the two major types of parasitic protozoa known worldwide to date—myxosporidians and ciliate classes of rotifers. Each chapter is organized around the host, forming a self-contained system for different pathogenic organisms, while also being closely interconnected with other chapters, reflecting the unified academic philosophy of the entire book.
