Features: The purpose of publishing the "College English Test Band 4 Syllabus (2006 Revision)" is to enable teachers and students to understand the objectives, content, format, language skills and requirements of the post-reform Band 4 exam, as well as the new score reporting system and score interpretation. In terms of test composition, the reform of the Band 4 exam is primarily reflected in the following aspects:
1. The proportion of the listening comprehension section has been increased from the original 20% to 35%. A long dialogue listening comprehension test has been added, and the compound dictation has been changed from an optional item to a mandatory question type.
2. The reading comprehension section has been supplemented with a rapid reading skills test.
3. Vocabulary and grammar knowledge are no longer listed as separate test items but are integrated into other sections for assessment.
4. A sentence-level Chinese-to-English translation test has been added.
5. The proportion of constructed-response questions has been increased, while the proportion of multiple-choice questions has been reduced.
The reform of the College English Test Band 4 and Band 6 is a complex systematic project and an ongoing process of continuous improvement. The test committee will continue to research and develop new question types that can effectively assess students' comprehensive English application skills while being suitable for large-scale standardized testing. Additionally, the committee will study the impact of the Band 4 and Band 6 exams on teaching to better serve the needs of college English education.
