Author: Li Xu (Ming Dynasty), annotated and edited by Wei Lianke
Publisher:
Publication Date: Not available
Features: This book is one of the more important types of Ming Dynasty notes, recording content related to Ming Dynasty politics, economy, and corresponding regulations and institutions. It preserves the remarks, actions, poems, and letters of Song, Yuan, and Ming Dynasty figures. It also documents the extraordinary social events of the Ming Dynasty. This book is his notes from his later years, occasionally analyzing academic issues, and offers insightful perspectives on the verification of certain topics. Overall, the valuable contributions of this book can be summarized in three aspects: first, the records of Ming Dynasty regulations and institutions and the deeds of some figures; second, the anecdotes and of previous dynasties that supplement the omissions in historical records; third, the analysis of some academically debated issues. The following examples illustrate these three aspects. This edition is based on the "Remains of Famous Scholars of Changzhou" and cross-referenced with the Ming Wanli edition, supplemented by the Qing Shunzhi edition. During the collation process, any discrepancies between the reference texts and the main text, or changes made based on them, are generally noted in the collation notes, with references to other Ming Dynasty books to judge the correctness. Unresolved issues are also preserved with alternative interpretations for reference. If three versions have minor textual differences but the meaning remains consistent, they are not listed individually to avoid redundancy.
