Patient's question:
Hello, how can one determine if a 22-month-old child has congenital rubella? Are there any effective treatment methods? Please give some advice from a doctor.Doctor's answer:
For the diagnosis of congenital rubella syndrome, there are mainly the following approaches:1. Epidemiological data, including a history of rubella exposure or illness in the pregnant woman during the early stages of pregnancy, with laboratory confirmation that the mother has been infected with rubella.
2. The presence of one or more congenital defects in the infant after birth.
3. The presence of specific rubella IgM antibodies in serum samples from the infant in the early stages of life.
4. The gradual increase in rubella-specific IgG antibody titer in the child after birth. When passively acquired maternal antibodies are no longer present at 8–12 months of age, rubella antibodies continue to be detected at consistently high levels in serial serum samples.
