Publisher:
Publication Date: 1991-07-01
Features: Since the publication of Treatise on the Daoist Canon, it has been thirteen years. During these thirteen years, several monographs and papers on Taoism have been published. Some of these works involve the textual criticism of Taoist texts, exploring new achievements and perspectives in academia, and have also photocopied certain arguments from Treatise on the Daoist Canon. For example, the study on the lineage of the "Great Ultimate Circle" is one such case. Taoism has a history of over two thousand years in China, and tracing its origins reveals an even longer history. Over the centuries, the founders, religious thinkers, and commentators of Taoism have left behind an immense body of literature. These texts are diverse in type and manuscript variations, making it difficult for later scholars to study them. Ren Jiyu, a renowned scholar, led a team of over ten experts from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, dedicating several years to compiling this comprehensive reference work, Treatise on the Daoist Canon. Based on the Ming Dynasty's Zhengtong Daoist Canon and referencing other versions, this book corrects errors, outlines key points, and greatly facilitates the work of researchers and readers. Since its first publication in 1991, the book has received acclaim from academia, followed by a second edition in 1995, and this is the third revised printing.
