Features: Zhao Ziqian, styled Zushu, was also known as Beihé, Wumen, and was equally renowned as the "Second Jindietang." He was an outstanding calligrapher, painter, seal carver, and seal engraver in Chinese history. He once described his seal carving: [Taking inspiration from the inscriptions on Qin edicts and Han lanterns, I have established a new school for seal carvers over the past six hundred years.] Wu Changshuo praised him: [Mr. Beihé does not study calligraphy below the Qin and Han dynasties, and he deeply understands ancient scripts. His knowledge of inscriptions on pottery and jars is profound, so his seal carvings are extraordinary and dynamic, transforming the Zhe School. They are truly precious.] Around the age of thirty, he carved seals such as [The Fourteen Scholars of Western Capital (Confucian Classics)], [Tao Xian's Seal Collection], [Ding Wenwei], as well as [Born Four Months After Kangcheng], [Record of Wei Xizeng Collecting and Engraving], and [Wei Xizeng] while staying in Fuzhou at the age of thirty-three. He had already experienced the principle of "seal carving born from seal script and seal script born from seal carving," opening up new possibilities and making contributions to the development of seal carving art as a bridge between the past and the future. In the summer of two thousand and six, Fujian Fine Arts Press published a new edition of Zhao Ziqian's Seal Collection Supplement, which includes seals such as [Bodhisattva's Protection], [Bo Nian], [Futang's Appraisal], and [Zheng Zhai], as well as the edge inscriptions of seals like [Jiangu Tang] and [A Small Person Has a Mother], which have not been seen elsewhere. These are rare works for studying his seal carving art and are hereby introduced.
