Publish Date: 2003-05-01
Features: This book was jointly compiled by Tianjin University, Xi'an University of Science and Technology, Harbin Institute of Civil Engineering, and Chongqing Institute of Civil Engineering. The second edition underwent significant revisions and additions compared to the first edition. The third edition was comprehensively revised based on national and industry standards related to geotechnical engineering issued between 1993 and 2002, as well as advancements in the field of geotechnical engineering. The book is divided into four parts: Rock and Geological Processes, Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, and Geotechnical Problems in Unfavorable Geological Conditions and Special Soil Types.
Part One: Rock and Geological Processes introduces the engineering properties and classification of rocks, common physical geological phenomena and geological processes, adverse engineering geological conditions and their impact on engineering.
Part Two: Soil Mechanics describes the fundamental theories of soil mechanics, including the physical and mechanical properties of soil, stresses in soil, foundation deformation, bearing capacity, stability, and earth pressure.
Part Three: Foundation Engineering covers the design and construction of building foundations and subgrades, including geotechnical investigation, shallow foundations, pile foundations, caisson and pier foundations, foundation treatment, and dynamic machine foundations.
Part Four: Geotechnical Problems in Unfavorable Geological Conditions and Special Soil Types provides a brief introduction to regional special soil types in China, including foundation engineering in seismic zones, slope stability, collapsible loess, red clay, expansive soil, fill soil, soft soil, frozen soil, saline soil, and mountainous rock and soil foundations.
This book is suitable for reference by civil engineering surveyors, designers, construction technicians, and faculty and students of civil engineering programs in universities and colleges.
