Features: This book is compiled based on the partial content and achievements of the National Key Basic Work Project "Standards for Traditional Chinese Medicine and Related Clinical Efficacy Evaluation Standards" - Research on Quality Standards of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It primarily focuses on 27 commonly used traditional Chinese medicines such as Rheum palmatum, Crataegus pinnatifida, Arctium lappa, Salvia miltiorrhiza, Boidu, Trichosanthes kirilowii, Pinellia ternata, etc., which require improved quality standards. Various effective components were employed for qualitative and quantitative control studies, filling or optimizing the current pharmacopoeia's identification (thin-layer chromatography) and content determination sections, while adding inspection items such as moisture and ash content. Fingerprint profiling studies were conducted on some varieties, and pharmacological research helped determine the active components and analytical methods of certain herbs. Based on these research efforts, quality standards (drafts) and their drafting explanations were formulated for the aforementioned herbs. Each herb is presented as an independent chapter, including four sections: literature review, quality standard research, draft quality standards and drafting explanations, and discussion and recommendations. Many of these suggestions have been adopted in the 2005 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia; the bioactivity evaluation method for Pinellia ternata and the PCR identification methods for Boidu and Ahaetulla cinerea represent innovative approaches with advanced, scientific, and significant reference value. The research findings in this book originate from national research projects and are the authors' own work, with verified data and reliable results. Each variety demonstrates innovation to varying degrees compared to existing research, offering good novelty and timeliness. In terms of content arrangement, it provides a comprehensive review of the current research status of each variety, detailed descriptions of research methods and content, and draft standards in the form of national regulations. This book serves as a valuable reference for scholars engaged in quality standard research and is also easy to learn and apply for quality control personnel, making it highly practical.
