Robin Hood is a heroic figure in British folklore, said to have been active in England between 1160 and 1247, known as the Earl of Huntingdon. From the mid-12th century, ballads and legends about Robin Hood began to circulate among the people. In the 14th century, stories about Robin Hood were first published as literary works. Since then, many writers have used this material to create beloved works. Among them, the American writer Howard Paul's "The Adventures of Robin Hood in Nottingham" published in 1883 is relatively familiar to us. This book is a re-creation by the French literary giant Alexandre Dumas based on the work of predecessors. This work differs from the plot and characters we are familiar with, showing us a brand-new, more vivid and rich Robin Hood, providing us with an opportunity for comparative reading. The surviving literary works about Robin Hood can be traced back to the 14th century. William Langland's long poem "Piers the Plowman" is one of the earliest. The Scottish historian Walter's "Chronicles of Scotland" also mentions him. After the 15th century, Robin Hood gradually became a household name. Robin Hood, with Sherwood Forest as his base, allied with Little John, Will Scarlet, and others, robbed the rich to help the poor, disciplined the tyrannical Lord Ludlow nobles and officials, and used the money obtained to assist the poor people, embodying the spirit of the people of medieval England resisting feudal oppression.
