Features: MPLS has become an indispensable technology in the data network field, providing connection-oriented Layer 2 transport over Layer 3 networks. This seemingly simple mechanism is highly functional and has fundamentally transformed the data network industry. Although network professionals can obtain information about the concepts and protocols involved in MPLS through numerous resources, there is still a lack of systematic elaboration on how to design MPLS networks in specific environments to fully leverage its advantages. This book is written for this purpose. The book first reviews the various technologies to be covered in two chapters, then introduces a series of design cases, including MPLS network designs for long-distance communication companies, national telecommunications companies, international service providers, and large enterprises. Each case is based on an MPLS-operating service provider or enterprise network, which are fictional but representative. In each design case, the network environment is first described, including the services to be supported, network topology, POP structure, transmission facilities, basic IP routing design, and potential constraints. Then, the design objectives are introduced, such as optimizing bandwidth utilization. Next, the various aspects of the network design are detailed, including VPN, QoS, TE, network recovery, and possibly multicast, IPv6, and pseudowires. Finally, the lessons learned from the design cases are summarized, enabling MPLS architects from various service providers and large enterprises to modify certain aspects of the designs to meet their network environments and objectives. ..This book is suitable for architects, designers, engineers, technical managers, professors and teachers of telecommunication majors, technical consultants, and students who are involved in MPLS networks in their work. Candidates studying MPLS knowledge for Cisco certifications such as CCIP or CCIE will also benefit greatly from this book. ..The book first reviews the various technologies to be covered in two chapters, then introduces a series of design cases, including MPLS network designs for long-distance communication companies, national telecommunications companies, international service providers, and large enterprises.
