How is jaundice in newborns treated?

Patient's question:

How is neonatal jaundice treated? Do I need to go to the hospital for treatment? How long does it take to recover? Please help me!

Doctor's answer:

Common knowledge: Neonatal jaundice is the yellowing of the skin, sclera, and mucous membranes that occurs during the neonatal period, also known as neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. Bilirubin encephalopathy is the clinical and subclinical manifestations of free bilirubin crossing the blood-brain barrier into the central nervous system, leading to neurotoxicity and degeneration of neurons, and presenting with abnormal neurological symptoms. In children with varying degrees of hyperbilirubinemia, transient bilirubin neurotoxicity can occur even at lower serum bilirubin levels.
