About the Author:
Deming (W. Edwards Deming), known as the "father of modern quality management," was born in Iowa, USA, in 1900. In 1928, he obtained a Ph.D. in mathematical physics from Yale University. In 1950, he traveled to Japan to serve as a lecturer and consultant in the industrial sector. In 1956, he was awarded the Second Class Order of the Sacred Treasure by Emperor Hirohito. In 1987, President Reagan awarded him the National Medal of Technology. He lived a long life and passed away in December 1993. Throughout his life, Deming traveled the world, introducing his famous "Four-Day Seminar," attracting tens of thousands of attendees each year. To commemorate his early contributions to the development of Japanese industry, the Japan Science and Technology Union established the Deming Prize in his name. To this day, his portrait hangs in the main hall of Toyota's Tokyo headquarters. After NBC aired the program "Japan Can, Why Can't We?" in 1980, Deming's management philosophy sparked a wave of quality revolutions in the United States, significantly improving American productivity and competitiveness.
