Features: The compilation of "New Chinese Reader" is treated as an academic endeavor. Whether in the selection of texts, the organizational system, or the writing of reading suggestions, our educational philosophy and pursuit of secondary school Chinese education are deeply integrated. The name "New Chinese" is chosen to highlight the consciousness and experimental nature of this pursuit. "New Chinese Reader" is designed to align with the current teaching system, divided into junior high and senior high school sections. It establishes a progressive reading system based on the phased characteristics and needs of students' learning and comprehension of language, as well as their psychological, emotional, and intellectual development, and the stages of spiritual growth.
The "new" in "New Chinese" explores several aspects. First is the guiding principle—the concept of Chinese education. We believe that a person's Chinese literacy directly stems from their practical experience in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Among these, reading is foundational and pivotal. True reading is a dialogue with the author's mind. Therefore, this reader does not follow the logical order of language knowledge and reading/writing knowledge adhered to by previous similar readers, but is selected according to the different psychological growth characteristics and needs of adolescents at different age stages. The selected works are primarily not used as examples of language knowledge or reading/writing knowledge, but as bridges for readers to engage in dialogue with outstanding thinkers, writers, and scientists from all over the world. Through this bridge, we hope to step out of the relatively narrow spiritual cave, embrace the brilliance and shadows of world civilization, appreciate the spiritual elegance of the Chinese nation, and from the language of the texts, feel the heartbeat of great minds, explore the mysteries of the verbal world, while laying a solid foundation for Chinese language and humanistic spirit.
