Features: Ren Jun's poetic creation took place in Guangdong, the cradle of the revolution. In the early 20th century, the decay and stubborn resistance of the old system, the immense suffering of the people, and the continuous upsurges of revolutionary struggles all left a profound impact on the young, who were swept up in the tide of change, fostering a strong sense of love and hatred. They chose to join the ranks of proletarian literature. During the period of the Tokyo branch of the League of Left-Wing Writers, the young poet Ren Jun visited many renowned Japanese writers, such as Kita Suisei, Kobayashi Takiji, Tominaga Naoki, and Moriyama Kei, with great enthusiasm. These vibrant literary practices, along with the numerous Japanese literary works he translated afterward, allowed Ren Jun to accumulate valuable literary insights throughout his career, further solidifying his commitment to a realistic literary path. When the motherland's land was trampled and humiliated by the Japanese invaders, the poet wielded his pen as a weapon, employing satirical poetry to mock and expose the invaders and domestic appeasers (pacifists) with merciless ridicule and scathing criticism. The 1936-published collection Cold and Hot was reviewed by the famous litterateur Ai Ying (Qian Xinglang) as "a new form of satirical poetry in China," "a new form of exploration," and "using poetic skills to expose the darkness from politics to society, with a passion for hating evil to these vices." During this period, Ren Jun wrote a large number of satirical poems, and poetic creation became the poet's sharp arrow and dagger in defending the dignity of the motherland.
