Features: A spider who enjoys watching others quarrel
Once, there was a spider named Sida. This spider had a peculiar habit: it loved to watch others quarrel, and the louder the argument, the happier it became. One day, Sida deliberately invited the eagle, the rooster, and the ant to dinner. Sida knew very well that the three of them were always at odds, and he did this just to see their commotion. Sure enough, as soon as the eagle, the rooster, and the ant met, they started arguing. The rooster cursed the ant for spitting on it, the eagle accused the rooster of driving it mad with its chatter, and the ant cursed both of them for being scoundrels. As the argument escalated, the rooster lunged at the ant, pecking at it, saying the ant shouldn’t have spat on it. The eagle flew up and tried to grab the rooster, claiming the rooster’s words were driving it mad. Sida didn’t try to mediate; instead, he stood by the sidelines, laughing at their misfortune. But he never expected that when the eagle tried to grab the rooster, it accidentally knocked over a beam of the house, which fell and landed right on Sida’s waist, breaking it. Later, although Sida’s waist was healed, it became very thin.
Moral and Philosophy: One must have a broad-minded and upright nature, always act with kindness, and never harbor ill intentions or deliberately disrupt unity. If harmony and peace are lost, everyone may suffer.
The Frog and the Mouse
A fat mouse, well-fed and plump, never knew when to restrain itself from eating. One day, while playing near a swamp, a frog hopped over and invited it to his home for a big meal. The mouse happily accepted the invitation.
The frog then rambled on about the joys of swimming, the excitement of traveling, and all sorts of strange and wonderful stories that had happened in the swamp. It was probably trying to impress the mouse so it could later tell its children and grandchildren about the customs and scenery of the swamp. But as the mouse listened, it grew worried because it wasn’t a good swimmer and would need help to get there. The frog quickly came up with a plan: it tied the mouse’s paws to its own hind legs with reeds, securing them tightly.
As soon as they entered the swamp, the frog pulled the mouse into the water with all its might. This was indeed a malicious act. In his mind, the frog had already imagined the plump mouse being torn apart and eaten. The mouse prayed to the heavens for salvation, but the frog mocked its fear and kept pulling it deeper into the water. Just then, an eagle soaring in the sky spotted the fat mouse and swooped down to catch it. Because the mouse and the frog were tied together, the eagle caught both of them in one swoop, and its heart was filled with joy: this dinner would be quite a feast!
Moral and Philosophy: There is an old Western proverb: “To begin by harming others is to end by harming oneself.” It’s better to be honest and upright. Those who plot against others often end up harming themselves, and schemers frequently bring misfortune upon themselves.
