Features: Xinjiang is incredibly rich in bird resources. According to the 2001 edition of "Birds of Xinjiang," the region is home to 422 wild bird species, belonging to 19 orders and 53 families, accounting for about one-third of the total number in China. Many unique species exist, such as sandpipers, snowfinches, ground jays, sandgrouse, and snowcock. However, due to various reasons, the situation of birds, especially rare species, is extremely challenging, with some species already facing extreme endangerment or even extinction. Strengthening and expanding bird conservation efforts are urgently needed. Combining birdwatching activities with environmental protection and grassroots community initiatives can also promote social harmony, accelerate the popularization of science and technology, and cultivate public appreciation for science, nature, and the animals around us. Birdwatching is also a vital for discovering new species. Over the past decade, Xinjiang has made new discoveries annually, which serves as strong evidence. Our experience is that combining birdwatching with outdoor lifestyles and integrating it with scientific research and education is essential. This is also the origin of the book's title, "Observation and Research."
