Features: VOA's English teaching program, with its popular American language, authentic American pronunciation, and rich content, has a significant impact on a broad range of English learners in China, especially young students. It has become an effective way for people to learn American English and practice listening and speaking skills. It has also been included as an important component in the current College English Listening Tests (Levels 4-6). The series of books dedicated to readers selects newly broadcast program content, accompanied by MP3 audio recordings of readings by experienced VOA announcers. These books will serve as a stepping stone for middle school students, college students, College English Test (CET) 4-6 takers, and adult readers who are less accustomed to using English, helping them quickly improve their listening, speaking, and reading skills.
Intermediate American English was developed under the guidance of Dr. John Nelson from the Center for Applied Linguistics in the U.S. and is based on two textbooks, "Lado English" and "Modern American English," published by Regent Publishing Company. It aims to help readers with some English foundation to further improve their language skills. The book is divided into 52 lessons. Each lesson introduces a grammar point based on a dialogue, followed by sentence structure exercises. Then, a short passage is read, and a few questions are answered to review the grammar learned that day while also practicing listening skills. Therefore, this book is particularly suitable for middle school students to read outside of class and also serves as a practical self-study guide for beginners learning English.
