In the gentle breeze, if the flower nods up and down, it can be seen as me paying a revolutionary salute to the patriotic martyrs who fought for the liberation of the Chinese nation! If the flower sways left and right, it can be seen as me singing a revolutionary song, encouraging the soldiers to advance!" This was written by the martyred Fang Zhimin before his execution. For the beloved motherland, he died a glorious death, leaving no regrets. On January 27, 1935, Fang Zhimin was captured by the enemy. Two bandits thought they could make a fortune, but in the end, they only found a pocket watch and a steel pen on the high-ranking Red Army general. When the enemy demanded he write a surrender letter, Fang Zhimin used the enemy's ink and brush to write "Fang Zhimin's Autobiography": Fang Zhimin, from Yiyang, aged thirty-six. A intellectual, he joined the Communist Party of China in 1923 and participated in times of the Great Revolution. From 1926 to 1927, he served as the Secretary-General of the Jiangxi Provincial Peasants' Association. After the failure of the Great Revolution, he secretly returned to Yiyang to carry out the land revolution movement, creating Soviet regions and the Red Army. Through eight years of arduous struggles, his revolutionary will only grew stronger. This time, he went to southern Anhui with the Red Ten Army Corps and was captured while returning to the Soviet region. My general political views are the same as those advocated by the Communist Party. I have firmly believed in the Soviet Union and revolution. The revolutionary work I have done these past few years has been public, and almost everyone knows about it, so there is no need to elaborate. I will only briefly describe it as above. Fang Zhimin, January 29, 1935. The enemy commander-in-chief took this "Autobiography" and flew into a rage. The next day, he sent a large detachment to escort Fang Zhimin to the headquarters of the army in Dashuikeng, Yushan County. The enemy army had offered a reward of 80,000 silver yuan for capturing Fang Zhimin. The enemy division commander Liu Zhenqing considered this a treasure and wanted to persuade Fang Zhimin to surrender so he could claim double the reward. He learned that the county magistrate of Yushan County, Wang Zhenhuan, had once been involved in the underground center of the Communist Party—Lingming Middle School and had also sought influence in the Jiangxi Provincial Party Department of the Kuomintang, and had some connection with Fang Zhimin. He asked Wang Zhenhuan to persuade Fang Zhimin to surrender. As soon as Fang Zhimin arrived, Wang Zhenhuan warmly entertained him, saying with emotion, "Brother Fang, how have you been? The times have changed, and I never expected to meet you here at this moment. What a coincidence, what a coincidence!" "Oh! Isn't this Wang Qingchen?" Fang Zhimin replied sarcastically. Wang Zhenhuan, hearing Fang Zhimin call him by his former name, thought Fang Zhimin had not forgotten their old connection and was full of hope, quickly replying, "Brother Fang has a good memory! Brother Fang truly has a good memory!" "I heard you became a big official?" Fang Zhimin snorted. "Oh, no, no." Wang Zhenhuan quickly accompanied the smile. Fang Zhimin then said, "Back then, we were once on the same path; now, you have betrayed your country to the enemy. Wang Qingchen, there is nothing more to say between us." Wang Zhenhuan, not understanding the situation, still held onto a sliver of hope and was about to speak when Fang Zhimin waved his hand, saying, "No need for more words. I, Fang Zhimin, would rather be broken than be reduced to pieces!" The unsuccessful attempt at persuasion led Liu Zhenqing to order the addition of a ten-pound heavy chain.
