Features: The various methods Kangxi used to educate his children were reported to King Louis XIV of France by the French missionary Jean-Baptiste du Halde, based on his personal observations. Du Halde stated in his report that the Chinese Emperor, as a model of paternal love, provided exemplary education for his heir, earning the admiration of the officials. The Emperor of China paid special attention to the moral education of his princes, striving to provide them with training appropriate to their status, teaching them classics, poetry, calligraphy, painting, music, geometry, astronomy, horseback riding, archery, swimming, and firearms, among other things. When the Emperor went hunting in Mongolia, he initially only brought his eldest, third, and fourth sons. After the hunt began, he summoned three more princes, the eldest being fourteen years old and the youngest only nine.
