Features: This edition is based on the "Dialectics" from the "Siku Quanshu" collection. The original Siku Quanshu edition included numerous annotations by scholars in the margins, which have been retained as footnotes in this edition, corresponding to the "Original Siku Quanshu Annotations" section of the collation notes. This edition also uses Qian Xizuo's "Shoushan Pavilion Collection" as a reference edition, referred to as the "Qian's Collation" in the collation notes. The valuable parts of Qian's collation notes have been fully incorporated, without appropriating others' work, and are specifically marked with "Qian said." Any comments added by the editor are prefixed with "Now according to." Obvious errors in the original text (e.g., self, self, self, etc.) have been directly corrected by the editor without recording in the collation notes. The collator has added modern punctuation to the original text while appropriately segmenting it for clarity.
The book "Dialectics," along with the original Siku Quanshu annotations and Qian Xizuo's comments in the "Shoushan Pavilion Collection," often adopts abbreviated or conventional names for ancient texts, such as referring to the "Zuo Zhuan" as "Zuo," the "Official and Clan Records" of the "Weishu" as "Wei Zhi," and the "Cabinet of Ministers Genealogy" of the "New Tangshu" as "Tang Shixi Tabulation," etc. Qian Xizuo's collation notes cite some original texts from damaged Song dynasty manuscripts, which have been supplemented in this edition for each volume and marked with shadows for distinction. To facilitate reader searches, this edition includes a surname radical and stroke index appended at the end of the book.
