"The Emperor Waltz" by Johann Strauss was composed in October 1889 and first performed at the dance hall in the Berlin Palace Gardens. The piece consists of an introduction, four waltzes, and an ending, forming a very standard Strauss waltz. The introduction features a short cello solo, evoking the image of a gentleman inviting a lady to dance. Measure 6 is the theme of the piece, exuding a majestic and solemn air of a ruler. In the closing section, the "Emperor" theme reappears in a grand tutti, followed by a powerful chord that concludes the piece. This is a very magnificent and solemn waltz.
