In this biography, Roman Rolland did not dwell on trivial details of the subjects' lives or generally trace their creative journeys. Instead, he firmly grasped the common threads among these three artists and vividly portrayed their long struggle against suffering in pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty. Rolland called them "heroes," using deeply moving words to depict their sublime courage in resisting fate and their great compassion for bearing the suffering of humanity. It can be said that he composed another Symphony of Heroes for us. The first half of the 20th century was a turbulent and profoundly difficult period in human history. Roman Rolland wrote The Lives of the Great primarily to draw strength for survival and courage for battle from the lives of these great figures. This outstanding biography has inspired generations of readers, both in China and abroad. For today's readers, The Lives of the Great remains a book worth reading repeatedly. It beautifully embodies an ancient Chinese proverb: "Those who achieve great things in history are not only endowed with extraordinary talent but also possess unwavering perseverance." Moreover, in an era of extreme material abundance and relatively weak spiritual life, in a society where people avoid greatness and embrace mediocrity, the lives of these giants presented in The Lives of the Great serve as a mirror, allowing us to recognize our own humility and insignificance and inspiring us to pursue a rich and great life. The Lives of the Great is Roman Rolland's masterpiece and has long been revered as a classic in the literary world. From its first publication to the present day, its unique value has made it a "source of new support for people," earning it a place as one of the "30 Greatest Books of All Time."
