Features: An international architectural event held every three years by the International Union of Architects (IUA). The 20th World Congress of Architects has come to a close, leaving behind a grand scale, fruitful outcomes, and a special place in history. The exciting and memorable days of the event continue to linger in our minds, evoking a sense of profound reflection. Since the Chinese Architectural Society first applied to host the event during the 15th IUA Congress in 1985, it has been 14 years. China's rapid development and unprecedented construction scale have provided architects with rare opportunities and an environment for growth, laying a solid foundation for the success of this congress. The preparation for the event spanned six years, involving the silent efforts and selfless dedication of hundreds of staff members, as well as the dedicated research and relentless pursuit of numerous renowned and lesser-known scholars. With the care of the Central Committee and the State Council, guidance from relevant ministries and commissions, and support from the Beijing Municipal Government, along with the strong assistance and enthusiastic participation of all sectors of society, especially the architectural community, the Chinese Architectural Society has finally fulfilled this glorious historical mission.
After the congress concluded, evaluations came one after another—praise, congratulations, gratitude, as well as complaints and criticism. But it is certain that with minimal financial investment from the state and relatively weak academic and research foundations, the event achieved such a level of success and was praised by senior leaders of the IUA as the "best IUA Congress ever held." This brings immense comfort. Our efforts have been rewarded. Chinese architects have finally gained recognition as members of the global architectural family. As part of this family, we have not only contributed to the accumulation and development of the world's architectural treasury but have also written a chapter with distinct contemporary characteristics to welcome the second millennium of history.
