Over the past two decades, research on second language acquisition (SLA) in China has made significant progress. According to incomplete statistics, there are over 450 articles published in fourteen core journals related to foreign languages and linguistics/Chinese studies, among which 58 are on learning strategies and communication strategies. There are also 14 monographs, including one on learning strategies, and 11 collections of papers, two of which focus on learning strategies. Since the "Eighth Five-Year Plan," 13 projects have been funded by the National Philosophy and Social Science Foundation of China, three of which are related to second language learning strategies. This book is one of them—the final outcome of the project "Investigation and Training of English Learning Strategies for University Students." Although this book can also be considered a collection of papers, it has some differences from general collections. First, in terms of content, it is a comprehensive study of foreign language learning strategies. Specifically, we have combined learning strategies with factors such as gender, academic performance, and classroom performance. Second, in terms of research methods, it is primarily empirical, supplemented by qualitative research. Even in quantitative studies, the editors have selectively incorporated some elements of qualitative research. Finally, most of the authors of the individual chapters are members of the project team.
