During his youth, he ranked among the top in the imperial examinations. Later, he studied under Mr. Chen Shuyu and Mr. Li Chenke in the capital, served as a proofreader at the Wenyuan Pavilion, gaining access to rare books, and attended Tongwen College, where he studied mathematics, physics, and other subjects, achieving a comprehensive understanding of both Eastern and Western knowledge.
2. Hang Xinzhai organized the Academic Research Society for the Book of Changes (Zhouyi), named Yanji Xueshe. He served as the main lecturer on the Book of Changes within the society and wrote the six-volume Yi Xie (An Introduction to the Book of Changes). Additionally, he authored Early Notes on Learning the Book of Changes, Later Notes on Learning the Book of Changes, Random Observations on Yi Numerology, Miscellaneous Notes on Reading the Book of Changes, Corrections to Shen’s Interpretations of the Book of Changes, and Shen’s Revised Method of Divination. These works are collectively titled Seven Works of Hang’s Yi Studies, published by Yanji Xueshe in the eighth year of the Republic of China.

7. The punctuation in this book follows the current modern punctuation rules and the general conventions for punctuating classical texts, ensuring uniform and standardized punctuation throughout. However, em-dashes, ellipses, italics, and proper noun marks are not used. In the main text, no interlinear punctuation is employed. Commas are used to separate parallel book titles.
8. Textual processing. Simplified Chinese characters are based on the Regulations for the Use of Literary Language, the Table of Simplified Characters, and the List for Standardizing Variant Characters issued by the National Literary Work Committee, with reference to the Cihai and the Great Chinese Dictionary. Unresolved issues follow the general conventions for classical text editing. All text is simplified where possible. Ancient characters, non-standard characters, or obvious printing errors in the source text are uniformly replaced with standardized simplified characters. Obvious errors are corrected directly. Otherwise, the original text is retained without changes.
9. The renowned Book of Changes scholar Mr. Wang Lijun provided the necessary source text for the Book of Changes Studio and guided the entire editing process. We extend our gratitude to him in this regard.
