Did I go to the hospital last night because I had a lot of nosebleeds?

Patient's question:

Hello pediatrician, there was a lot of nosebleed last night, should we go to the hospital? I am very worried, the child has this symptom repeatedly, and it has been checked. I hope the doctor can help us.

Doctor's answer:

Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that nosebleeds are caused by the upward reversal of Qi and blood in the body. The nose belongs to the lung orifices, and when nose-related symptoms occur, they are generally closely related to abnormalities in the lungs and liver. When Qi and blood rise, especially when lung Qi is particularly hot, a person may experience nosebleeds. When lung Qi is excessively hot, the eyes may also appear bloodshot or bleed. The reasons for "feeling hot" (upward heat) and nosebleeds are the same—they are both results of the upward reversal of Qi and blood—but feeling hot is not the cause of nosebleeds. When nosebleeds occur, a cotton ball can be used to plug the nose, and the head can be tilted backward to help stop the bleeding more quickly. At the same time, a cool towel can be applied to the forehead or nose to lower the temperature of the head and nose, thereby reducing bleeding symptoms. If the bleeding in the nasal cavity is excessive and difficult to stop, it is important to seek medical attention promptly.
