The content is excellent and easy to understand. The heroine, Haimei, is prosecuted for failing to assassinate her stepmother. Lawyer Chen Guowei works tirelessly and finally convinces Haimei's stepmother to withdraw the complaint. At sixteen, Haimei has nowhere to go and is forced to live with the thirty-six-year-old, married lawyer. After ten years of cohabitation, the lawyer is either busy with work or "stealing the fragrance" elsewhere. Haimei, lonely and companionless, struggles with her solitude and abnormal demeanor, seeking psychological help from a female doctor—Dr. Zhou. Haimei treats Dr. Zhou as a trusted friend, but unexpectedly discovers that Dr. Zhou is a homosexual. Disappointment and harsh reality make it impossible for Haimei to adapt. In her loneliness, she falls into the trap of the gambling boss "Love," and finally is cast back into the vast sea of night.
