Publishing Time: Not available
Features: Mr. Ma Feibai has dedicated decades to researching the "Lingde Chapter of Guanzi" and began writing "Interpretation of the Revised Lingde Chapter of Guanzi" in 1943. To date, the manuscript has been revised seven times. His third draft was referenced and included in the bibliography of Guan Wuji Collection, edited by Guo Moruo during the mid-1950s, with over 100 citations. Guo Moruo wrote a letter to Mr. Ma at the time, providing an evaluation of the draft and suggesting, "Write a comprehensive research paper in the form of an essay." Mr. Ma accepted this advice and wrote three essays, collectively titled "On Guanzi's Lingde." The annotations and interpretations of the original "Lingde" text have also been revised multiple times. Now, we have combined both parts for publication and, in accordance with Mr. Ma's wishes, have included a facsimile of Guo Moruo's letter at the beginning.
In this book, the author pays particular attention to studying the era in which the "Lingde" was written and the fundamental theoretical system that runs through its chapters, using this as a guide for the specific textual annotations. He has also conducted comprehensive analysis and research on the meanings of common words and specialized terms in "Lingde." In the annotations of the original text, he adopts a cautious approach, avoiding arbitrary changes, additions, deletions, or rearrangements unless they are justified. He has put forward many independent insights on certain issues and original intentions related to "Lingde" and has engaged in debates with differing opinions. It is believed that the publication of this book will contribute to the exchange of diverse viewpoints in the study of "Lingde," thereby promoting deeper research.
