Features: Protecting the environment is a strategic issue concerning the overall economic and social development of our country, as well as an important indicator of a nation's and people's level of civilization. Our Party and the State have always attached great importance to environmental protection work. In the new century, effectively improving environmental protection is of great significance to achieving the grand goals of the "15th Five-Year Plan" and the third-step development strategy for national economic and social development. To help cadres, especially leaders at all levels, study and master the Party and State's policies and measures on environmental protection, enhance the environmental awareness of the entire nation, and strengthen environmental protection efforts, the State Environmental Protection Administration and the Research Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China jointly compiled the book "Selected Important Documents on Environmental Protection in the New Period." This book includes 104 important documents from the Third Plenary Session of the 12th Central Committee of the Party in December 1978 to the Fifth Plenary Session of the 15th Central Committee of the Party in October 2000. Among them, there are 44 documents issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the National People's Congress, the State Council, and relevant ministries and commissions, including decisions, notices, laws, regulations, and plans. There are also 60 documents such as speeches, articles, letters, and directives by leaders of the Party and the State.
