Features: Poetry and ci are among the most profound and captivating forms of classical Chinese literature. Due to their full embodiment of the characteristics of the Chinese language, they possess both literary and musical qualities as two artistic elements. In their concise form, they contain rich and profound meanings, which has always made them favored by both authors and readers. Their extensive social reference is unparalleled by other forms. The Commercial Press has previously published many collected works of ancient literary works, including general and separate collections. Selecting renowned works of famous poets and ci writers from all dynasties and compiling new research findings has always been our aspiration to provide society with a systematic and comprehensive poetry and ci anthology that combines academic standards with readability, appealing to both the refined and the popular. The poems and ci included in this book are based on the edition of Wang Peizheng's annotated Complete Works of Gong Zizhen, published by the Commercial Press's editing department in 1959 (reprinted twice in 1975 by the People's Press and in 1999 by the Commercial Press's Ancient Books Publishing House using the old paper format of the 1959 edition). In some cases, revisions were made based on other editions, with explanations provided. The Complete Works originally contained annotations on differences in old editions, with the better ones selected and included in the notes. The works are arranged in chronological order of their composition. As for the annotation style, each piece is preceded by a "title explanation" that provides the writing time, background, brief analysis of the ideas, and artistic appreciation.
