The Contemporary Linguistics of China series is one of the key publishing projects of Shanghai Education Press. The series was planned and began drafting and editing work by You Ru-jie (Fudan University), Zhang Hong-ming (University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA), and Tang Fa-nao (the Press) in the spring of 1990. Chinese linguistics began to break free from the constraints of traditional elementary education and entered a new stage of modern linguistics in the 1920s and 1930s. In the more than half a century since then, Chinese linguistics has accumulated considerable research achievements, especially in recent ten years, many fields have made significant progress both domestically and internationally. This series aims to summarize the research achievements of various branches of contemporary Chinese linguistics, particularly reflecting the latest research progress, in order to achieve the effect of connecting the past and the future, carrying forward the legacy, and promoting the modernization of Chinese linguistics. The authors of the series are not limited by nationality or region, nor by school or discipline, but only seek excellence and insight, striving to ensure that every book reaches the highest level of the discipline at the time. This book is one of them, systematically elaborating on the relationship among language, phonetics, and technology.
