Publish Date: 2006-07-01
Features: On the Yuefu Poetry (the edition published by this press in 1996) is a collection of the fruits of Wang Yunxi's long-term dedicated research on the Yuefu poetry of the Han, Wei, and Six Dynasties periods since the 1940s. The content covers discussions on the geographical origins, historical context, role, and influence of Yuefu poetry at the time, as well as the examination of the lives and works of relevant authors, and the distinctive features of Yuefu poetry in aspects such as accompanying melodies and homophonic puns. The material is well-documented, and the arguments are insightful. This supplement includes three papers published in the past decade, offering new explorations into the geographical origins, historical context, and historical status of the Six Dynasties Qing Shang Ci Ci, the development of the Liu Song royal family and Wu Sheng Xi Qu, Guo Maoqian and the Collected Yuefu Poems, among others. The book is divided into three parts: Part One Six Dynasties Yuefu and Folk Songs, Part Two Essays on Yuefu Poetry, and Part Three Further Discussions on Yuefu Poetry. The first two parts were previously published separately; this reprint largely preserves their original form, with minor revisions in a few places. The third part, Further Discussions on Yuefu Poetry, is newly compiled.
