Shortly after its publication, it was reprinted by Taipei Shushu Publishing House, and the sales volume was surprisingly high. The "Sayings of the Sayings" is not only a classic of ancient Chinese literature but also an important classic of history and philosophy. Its language is exquisite, and its content is profound, making it cherished by literati throughout the generations as a treasure. Unfortunately, due to the long history of copying and reprinting, many errors have occurred. The colloquial and dialectal language is difficult to understand, and the historical events, names, and items are often confusing, making it hard for scholars to read. After much reflection on this book, I have often seen its profound meanings, extensively searched through maps and historical records, and collected nearly everything. I have also developed its rules and annotations, ensuring a logical and convenient reading experience for readers. Later, Professor Ma Rui of the University of Minnesota published an English translation of "New Errors in the Sayings of the Sayings," Yu Jiaxi of Beijing Zhonghua Bookstore published "Annotations and Explanations of the Sayings of the Sayings," and Xu Zhenqiang published "Collation and Annotations of the Sayings of the Sayings." Their standards and methods were all influenced by previous works. I dare to say that the early efforts were arduous and pioneering, and perhaps it can be considered a masterpiece, though it may be too flattering to call it such.
