Features: Liu Zongyuan was an outstanding thinker and litterateur in the Tang Dynasty of China. To understand the extent of research conducted by scholars on him over the centuries, the editor has recently browsed extensively through collections of poetry and prose, poetic discussions, notes, historical books, and classified compendia since the mid-Tang period, compiling them into this collection. The materials included in this book cover more than 460 representative evaluations from the mid-Tang to the May Fourth Movement over a span of over 1,100 years, as well as more than 480 types of books, arranged in chronological order. The selection focuses primarily on materials that comment on Liu Zongyuan's thoughts and literary creations, but also includes some important materials related to his life and career, as well as studies that examine the authenticity of his works. Materials that provide textual and semantic explanations of his works are also selectively included. From the collected materials in this book, it can be seen that the study of Liu Zongyuan has never ceased throughout the ages, with particularly numerous researchers during the Song and Qing dynasties. Many of the current high-quality annotated editions of his collected works and valuable critiques were produced during these two eras.
