Features: Lectures on the History of Medieval Chinese Literature was completed in 1717. This book provides a detailed discussion of the history of medieval Chinese literature. It is rich in theory and offers novel perspectives. The book cites a vast amount of material, enhancing the authenticity and vividness of its theories. It focuses on the expert literature of the Han, Wei, and Six Dynasties periods. The book holds significant academic value. The lectures are divided into five lessons. Lesson "Introduction" aims to elucidate the significance of the study. Lessons 3, 4, and 5 discuss the evolution or overall characteristics of literature in each medieval period. In terms of historical content, it is evident that the detailed analysis should primarily be concentrated in these three later lessons. Notably, after Lesson "Introduction," and within the limited number of lessons, the author also specially designed Lesson 2, "Discerning Literary Genres," explaining the essence of this section as: "This lesson primarily takes Ruan's Dialogue on Literary Forms as its foundation. The cited works are categorized, each accompanied by explanatory notes to clarify the literary conventions." It appears that the author's more explicit intention was to achieve a clarification of literary perspectives, thereby re-examining the developmental trajectory of medieval Chinese literature. Consequently, this lesson is not dispensable in terms of continuity, and it also clearly reveals the author's academic lineage.
