Features: Henan is one of the main birthplaces of Chinese civilization. It boasts world-famous archaeological sites such as the Nanzhao Ape Man, the Peiligang Culture, the Yangshao Culture, and the Longshan Culture. Throughout history, more than 20 dynasties have established their capitals in Henan, including the ancient capital of thirteen dynasties, Luoyang, the ancient capital of seven dynasties, Kaifeng, and the ancient capital of the Yin Dynasty, Anyang. These historical facts demonstrate that Henan has served as the political, economic, and cultural center of China at different periods.
The Series of Excavated Coins in Henan is organized into several volumes based on the administrative divisions of Henan Province. If the manuscript of a particular region is not substantial enough to form a complete volume, it is compiled together with manuscripts from related or nearby cities. The content of each volume primarily focuses on the coin materials unearthed and discovered in the respective cities, emphasizing the introduction of the excavation conditions, the types and varieties of the unearthed coins, and their materials. Additionally, the series provides insightful analyses of the unearthed coins, striving for a balance between text and illustrations to highlight the data-rich and academically rigorous nature of the work.
Conducting a survey, organizing, and researching the coin discoveries and excavations in a province over nearly half a century, and compiling a series of books on coin excavations and studies in that province, is a pioneering effort in China. In terms of editorial style, content arrangement, and the selection of coin images, there are no existing precedents to follow.
