Features: The "Zishu" (Philosopher's Works) are an important part of China's ancient classics. The earliest of "Zishu" emerged during the Hundred Schools of Thought in the late Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, many of which are precious crystallizations of ancient Chinese intellectual and cultural heritage. Throughout the feudal society after the Qin and Han dynasties, numerous thinkers and scholars wrote similar works, some of which were also outstanding. The "New Collection of Zishu" includes "Zishu" from the pre-Qin to the Tang and Five Dynasties periods, with a focus on selecting works closely related to the study of philosophy and intellectual history. Some books that do not belong to the "Zishu" category, such as Ban Gu's "Baihu Tongyi," are also included due to their close relevance to the study of philosophy and intellectual history (with annotations by Chen Li from the Qing dynasty). The entire collection will be published in two volumes.
The first volume includes "Zishu" similar to the "Old Collection of Zishu," which are frequently read or referenced by general researchers. Each work selects the best available annotated edition to date. For a very few that still lack annotations, separate annotations will be created. Some books include multiple annotated editions, each with its own strengths. The second volume collects "Zishu" outside the first volume. Most of these works do not have existing annotated editions. For those that require annotation, annotations should be added. The rest will select the best available annotated editions, with some needing supplementary or revised annotations.
