In the 1930s, famous writers and scholars such as Juan Yidu, Liang Shiqiu, Yang Zhenqing, Lao She, Shen Congwen, and Hong Shen once composed brilliant chapters here. Since the 1950s, the study of Chinese classical literature and Chinese linguistics represented by Feng Yuanjun, Lu Kanru, Gao Heng, Xiao Difei, Yin Menglun, and Yin Huanxian, as well as the research on ancient Chinese history represented by Ding Shan, Zheng Hesheng, Huang Yunmei, Zhang Weihua, Yang Xiangkui, Tong Shuyei, Wang Zhongrong, and Zhao Lisheng, elevated Shandong University's academic status in the humanities to its peak. However, with profound changes in the times, like other key universities in China, the humanities research at Shandong University faces sharp challenges. How to revitalize its former glory is a common task for the leadership and faculty of Shandong University. "Though Zhou is an old state, its mandate is renewal." Against this special historical backdrop, the School of Humanities, History, and Philosophy was established, shouldering an irrefutable historical responsibility and becoming a new growth point for the humanities at Shandong University. The School of Humanities, History, and Philosophy is an academic institution dedicated to basic research, encompassing disciplines such as Chinese classical philology, ancient Chinese literature, Chinese linguistics, the theory and history of historiography, ancient Chinese history, philosophy of science and technology, literary theory, folklore, and Chinese folk literature. It primarily engages in research while also training master's and doctoral students. Prominent scholars such as Jiang Weisong, Wang Shaozeng, Ji Changhong, and Dong Zhi'an work at the School, serving as leaders in their respective fields.
