Greek Life View -- Six Points Academic. Republic Series

Author: (English) Dickinson, translated by Peng Jixiang
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2006-01-01
Features: The purpose of this book is to provide a general understanding of Greek literature and thought for those who are not familiar with Greek. Regardless of the value of the translations, through these translations, most modern readers can still gain insights into Greek culture. Moreover, I believe that this culture, like before, remains a valuable material for liberal education. Therefore, with the help of the original author's quotations, I hope that the work of providing a general concept of the Greek view of life will not be in vain. "The Greek View of Life" seems to be a questionable name, but I believe it truly has a very appropriate meaning. Although Greek culture is indeed multifaceted, there are several major concepts that are distinctly different from those of other countries. This book is Dickinson's most influential work and has been reprinted many times. It explains the overall understanding of Greek classical civilization from four perspectives: religious view, national view, personal view, and artistic view. Under each major theme, there are specific discussions. For example, in the chapter on the Greek view of art, it is divided into eight sections: Greek Art—Expression of National Life; Consistency of Aesthetic and Moral Views; Sculpture and Painting; Music and Dance; Poetry; Tragedy; Comedy; Conclusion. The book is well-organized and clearly structured, and any interested reader will gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Greek culture after reading it.
