Zhou Shuji was a renowned Buddhist scholar in China during the 20th century. This book is a carefully selected and popularized work drawn from the 3 million words of Zhou Shuji’s complete Buddhist treatises, The Collected Works of Zhou Shuji on Buddhist Philosophy. Following the principle of popularizing Buddhism and basic Buddhist knowledge that benefits the general public, over 100,000 words were chosen. These selected texts were then categorized in order from tangible to intangible and reorganized into chapters. New chapter titles were created based on the content, and some sections, such as Buddhist Q&A, were excerpted according to the book’s positioning. Articles with similar themes were merged and reduced. The main content of the book primarily draws from Discussions from the Dharma Grove while striving to address its shortcomings. Excerpts from Buddhist Q&A were included, and additional works by Zhou Shuji on Buddhist philosophy and Buddhist followers were added, thus covering the three essential aspects of Buddhism: the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha.
This book compiles Zhou Shuji’s writings on Buddhist institutions and Buddhist culture, as well as simple Buddhist doctrines. The text is concise and clear, accompanied by over 200 illustrations, making it (rich in both text and images).
