Journal of Linguistics (Volume 30)

Author: Lin Tao
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2004-12-01
Features: The Linguistic Circle was originally an irregular publication jointly organized by the Chinese Language Teaching and Research Office and the Linguistics Teaching and Research Office of Peking University. Starting from the 26th issue in 2002, it was taken over by the Center for Chinese Linguistics at Peking University. A new editorial board composed of renowned linguists from both China and abroad was established, and the publication was changed from irregular to biannual. This marked a significant shift in the editorial policy of The Linguistic Circle. From the newly published issues, it can be seen that the original editorial style has been maintained, and the purpose of supporting emerging scholars has not changed. This is truly a comforting development. Recently, the Standing Committee for the Humanities of the European Science Foundation (ESF) conducted a bibliometric analysis of linguistic journals published worldwide and selected the 85 most frequently cited journals. Among the Chinese publications, only three were included, in addition to Journal of Chinese Language and Literature and Journal of Ethnic Languages. The Linguistic Circle was also honored to be included. This is recognition from the international linguistic community for our work. The editorial board and editorial office will take this as motivation and encouragement to work even more diligently. The Linguistic Circle has now reached its 30th issue, entering its "thirtieth year" (a metaphor for reaching maturity). Whether it has truly "stood firm" depends on the judgment of the readers. But I believe that as long as the original editorial principles are upheld and continued support from linguists and readers at home and abroad is received, it will certainly stand firm and remain stable. I hope to share these thoughts and aspirations with my colleagues on the editorial board and editorial office. The editorial office asked me to write a few words for the 30th issue. I hereby express some reflections and hopes, as a token of remembrance.
