Features: We found that among the numerous publications on American literature, there is still a lack of an ideal and practical reference book. To address this, we have launched the "Dictionary of American Literature: Writers and Works," which aims to assist in the study and research of American literature. This is the first specialized dictionary in China on American writers and works, covering a broad scope, rich in information, uniquely designed, and up-to-date. It can serve as a desk reference for students and postgraduates in foreign literature and English majors, as well as for enthusiasts and researchers of American literature. It can also be used as a comprehensive guide to the overall panorama of American literature. This "Dictionary of American Literature" has the following features:
- It includes 506 entries on writers and works.
- Each entry is presented on one page.
- Entries are arranged alphabetically by the Pinyin transliteration of the writers' Chinese surnames.
- Work entries follow the writer entries and are listed in chronological order of publication.
- Writer entries primarily introduce their lives and creative works.
- Comments are objective, concise, and to the point.
- Work entries mainly provide plot summaries, along with necessary creative information and brief, fair reviews.
- Contemporary writers and works are updated to 2005.
- An English index of writer names and work titles is included for easy lookup based on the original English names.
