Wind and Cloud -- A Collection of Chinese Literary and Artistic Essays (A Selection of Japanese Studies on Chinese Culture)

Author: (Japanese) Kikukawa Kenzuki, translated by Zhou Xianmin
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2005-07-01
Features: We have not selected large-scale monographs like "Examination of the Shangshu Cited in Wenxuan by Li Shan" by Spinoro Rokuro or "A Study of the Text of Bai Juyi's Collection Based on Old Manuscripts" by Taito Jiro for this series. These works hold high academic value but have a limited readership. They are important, and we should introduce them when the conditions are met. What we aim to do first is to help readers get acquainted with a group of more accessible guests, that is, books written for non-Chinese scholars by scholars. The selected titles, in addition to a few new works, are all "small books" written by "Daigaku." Some focus on preserving Chinese documentary materials, others on filling gaps in local Chinese studies, some on the historical role in Sino-Japanese relations research, and some on their influence in the Japanese academic world. We take one aspect at a time, without seeking perfection, accumulate little by little, and embrace diversity, balancing academic rigor and readability. Through this series, readers can gradually meet those long-known but unseen scholars, sharing the landscape of Japanese Sinology.
